MPSC Recruitment: Exam Pattern, Insights, and Details



MPSC or Maharashtra Public Service Commission is the conductor of examinations for recruitment to state services in Maharashtra and also advises the governor on disciplinary matters. MPSC is a government organization that has regional offices across India. Every year MPSC releases hundreds of vacancy posts for recruitment drive that is carried out for the state of Maharashtra. Maharashtra Public Service Commission has already issued State Service Exams Schedule on its official website. Maharashtra State Service Exam will be organized to fill 234 job posts for various Government departments in Maharashtra. These exams will be held in three parts, that is, first Prelims, then Mains, which will be followed by the final Interview round. MPSC will conduct various competitive exams for recruiting the required number of candidates for numerous government departments under the state of Maharashtra. The nature of jobs will vary from administrative level to technical level and each job requires certain eligibility criteria. MPSC Recruitment Exam: Exam Pattern

There are various written exams scheduled for MPSC State Service Mains Exam. The prelim examination will consist of two objective type papers: Paper 1 & 2 (Both Compulsory) whereas the main examination will consist of six papers that will be based on descriptive type questions.

MPSC Preliminary Exam Pattern: Prelim Examination Process comprises of two exams, that is, Paper I & Paper II, that are held in order to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination that is held later.

  • Paper-I is of 2 hours for 200 Marks with 200 questions.

  • Paper-II is of 2 hours for 200 Marks with 200 questions.

  • All questions are mandatory with one-third negative marking criteria.

  • Question asked are MCQ types.

  • The question paper is bilingual, in Marathi and English languages.

MPSC Mains Exam Pattern: 

Main Examination Process comprises of seven written exams that include essay-based questions.

  • Paper I is General Studies I: History, Geography, and Agriculture - 2 hours for 150 Marks

  • Paper-II is General Studies II: Indian Polity and Laws - 2 hours for 150 Marks

  • Paper III is General Studies III: Human Resource development and human rights - 2 hours for 150 Marks

  • Paper IV is General Studies IV: Science and Technology, Economy - 2 hours for 150 Marks

  • Paper V is Compulsory Marathi of 3 hours for 100 Marks

  • Paper VI is General English of 1 hour for 100 Marks

The seventh exam is actually the interview. Both the prelim exam and main exam will have 1/3rd negative marking criteria.

Selection Process MPSC State Service Exam

MPSC has set a three-part selection procedure; the first part is the prelim exam, then the second part is the main exam which will be followed by the Personality Test in the third part. Aspirants who qualify the prelim round will be allowed to appear for the mains exam and then the candidates shortlisted after mains will be called for the final stage, that is, the interview.

The overall number of vacancies is 234 for which aspirants will be recruited through the MPSC State Service Exam and the location of the jobs is in Maharashtra. The salaries will range from Rs. 9300/ to 34800/- and Rs. 15,600/ to 39,100/-, as per the norms, rules/guidelines laid out by MPSC.

Tips to crack the MPSC State Services Exam

  • You need speed to finish MPSC State Services Exam within the prescribed time limit. Go through the detailed topics listed on MPSC official website and start with the ones that you are good at.

  • The prelim exam will be based on objective type questions. But the Main Exam will require candidates to write long answers in Marathi as well as in English. It is important to be selective about the study material to study smart and save time. Candidates must practice writing in Marathi and in English for essay type questions. The length of descriptive type questions will be from 205 words to 1000 words, which will take time to think and write, so reading about various topics, current events will help.

  • Have a strategy/study plan regarding what to do and how to do. Also, maintain a time table and allow time for each subject chapter wise so that you can track your progress as you move forward. After each study session keeps 1 hour for revision of topics learned/practiced.

  • Make Social Studies, Economics and some Culture topics your strong suit. Read newspapers every day to stay updated on the nation and international issues, current events, corporate news, economy, and important announcements.

  • Become smart by attempting questions that you are sure of first, then come to the questions you’re in doubt. But don’t attempt them anyway, remember negative marking is a factor here. Therefore, try to attempt questions that you are absolutely sure about.

  • Manage your time properly; give an appropriate amount of time to each section. Try to improve your time by practicing as many online tests as possible.
