  • Union Public Service Commission is a Central’s recruiting and examination agency which employs candidates for All India Services which includes IAS, IRS, IDAS, IFS, IPS, SCRA, NDA, IAAS, CDS, etc. The process is done in 3 ways: Pre, Main or Interview.

    The UPSC is governed by Government of India and hence is laid and maintained according to the Articles i.e. 315 to 323. The functions of UPSC comes in Article 320 of Constitution of India which states:

    ·Regulates examination for the higher posts in Indian Civil Services.
    ·It appoints officers/ transfers/give promotions to them
    ·Acts as advisory body for the commission to President of India
    ·Takes active part in civil services cases
    ·It helps in amending of different rules for the employment pf various posts under the Government of India
    ·It helps in hiring candidates for civil services through interviews.

    The vacancy is last 4 years has shown a drastic difference:
    In 2014: It was 1291
    In 2015: It was 1129
    In 2016: It was 1079
    In 2017: It was 980
    In 2018: It is 780

    With decrease in vacancies, the competition is increasing. Last year more 15 lakh people competed for 980 vacancies making UPSC a privilege.The age limit is 21 to 32 years with age relaxation to OBC, SC/ ST, PH of 3 years, 5years, and 10 years respectively. The minimum education qualification of any person is Graduation from a recognised university by the central government of India. The allowed exam attempts for General, OBC, ST/SC, PH category are 6 years, 9 years, until upper age respectively.
