It doesn't matter when you start. Most students do not solve numericals in Jan. So they lose the flow and become uncertain at the day of exam. Solve previous years gate papers on your own in Jan month. That's enough for 50 to 60 marks if done seriously. Till then prepare your favorite subjects first and give mocks
