Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is taken jointly by IICs & 7 other IITs on behalf of the National coordination board. GATE is an online entrance exam for those candidates who wish to qualify for M.E., M.tech & Ph.D. course in engineering. Candidate must hold a bachelors degree in B.tech/B.E./ B.pharma, Science, B.sc research from recognized University. In GATE examination, candidates can apply for only one of the 23 papers. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. The questions are objective type. The question asked in GATE exam are based on conceptual clarity based on verbal & numerical ability. The verbal section asked questions from English Grammer, Verbal analogies, sentence completion. There are total 65 questions in the exam. The total marks allotted will be 100 marks. To prepare well, candidates are advised to practice Instrumentation Engineering Eng and previous year papers.

GATE Instrumental Engineering: Exam Pattern

GATE Examination is of 65 questions for 100 marks in total. The duration is of 3 hours. The questions are in the MCQ form. It is a Computer Based Test (CBT). The sections divided in the papers are:

  • General Aptitude- There will be 10 questions. 5 questions for 1 mark each: 5 questions for 2 marks each. In total, this test consists of 15 marks.
  • Technical Section- There will be 25 questions. Each question for 1 mark, where the section is of 25 marks in total.
  • Instrumentation Engineering- There will be 30 questions. Each question for 2 marks, where the section is of 60 marks in total.
  • 1 mark MCQs – 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • 2 mark MCQs – 2/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong response.
  • Zero marks will be awarded for unattempted questions
